Sometimes you want to make things easier for your site’s members, community and show them an improved navigation. This can be useful when running a store or a bbPress forum for example, or on specific post type pages only.

You could want to extend navigation with forum links or show navigation to special member discount pages when logged in.

Since we are a WordPress site, and we talk WordPress here, there’s a plugin for that.

The If Menu Plugin

The If Menu Plugin extends the menus in WordPress with role based, post type based, and device based conditional logic.

In other words, with the If Menu plugin you can decide whether to show menu links to members only, on pages only or only on mobile devices – or a combination thereof.

Mash It Up

As a stand-alone plugin If Menu can be useful, especially in specific use cases. When the If Menu plugin excels is when combined with other WordPress plugins such as the User Role Editor plugin for WordPress which allows new user roles to be created, or with custom post types or store user/member roles.

One could easily create tiered membership levels and use the If Menu plugin to show links only to the appropriate membership level members. This works a treat when used with plugins such as Easy Digital Downloads, the Membership extension for WooCommerce, or the Woocommerce Ambassador Affiliate integration.
